Can Holidays Be Severed from Their Myths

Through a window on a snowy night we see a room warmed by a fire in the fireplace and both a menorah with all candles burning and a decorated Christmas tree.

Can holidays be severed from their myths?
How bare and colorless our lives would be!
Religion need not enter into this.
In myths we find a common poetry.
So the candles celebrating light,
The angels keeping watch on Christmas Eve,
Magnify the beauty of the night,
Are golden threads whatever one believes,
Songs that bind the souls of scattered leaves.
